A clinical trial of an experimental GlaxoSmithKline PLC (GSK) drug designed to harness the potential anti-aging effects of red wine has been halted for “unexpected safety events”

    Bij Guido’tje worden ook de zegeningen van resveratrol gezongen, maar ja, het zal er nooit van komen omdat big pharma het niet wil onderzoeken.

    Nou ja, dan wordt Guido nu in ieder geval op zijn wenken bediend,het is onderzocht al zal het resultaat hem dan tegenvallen.
    Ik ben trouwens wel benieuwd naar die “unexpected safety events”.

    Rickyroots1 is 1 van de beste Reggae en Ska verzamelaars van Youtube.
    Het is de moeite waard om daar in te gaan snuffelen.
    Bijna alles is 7 inch en orgineel uit Jamaica.
    En de muziek is ook gemakkelijk te downloaden.

    On topic maar weer.

    A locally developed drug compound that received national media attention for its promise to treat diseases and extend life expectancy by reproducing the positive effects of red wine has suffered a setback.

    The drug candidate was the lead product of Cambridge, Mass.-based Sirtris Pharmaceuticals, which was bought by GlaxoSmithKline for $720 million in 2008. GSK halted a multiple myeloma study with the drug after several patients developed kidney damage.

    Leuk, dat Glaxo bashen;-)
    Hier valt te lezen dat Glaxo in januari al wist dat de resultaten tegen zouden vallen en dat er problemen te verwachten waren met het medicijn.

    The drug is intended to spur SIRT1, an enzyme which plays a central role in aging. But, writes Herper, the Pfizer scientists say that neither resveratrol nor other Sirtris therapies even hit their target. And the Pfizer study builds on a similar conclusion reached by an Amgen team last year. Derek Lowe, who writes In the Pipeline, concludes that it is “almost certainly the case” that there are problems with the drug.

    Greek authorities have started naming and shaming doctors alleged to have avoided paying taxes.
    The finance ministry has published the names of 57 doctors who are accused of failing to pay tax.
    The ministry imposed fines of several hundred thousand euros on 11 of the worst offenders.
